Program Development

Inspection routines are built from the part print or CAD model and the controlling GD&T callouts. Programs are built for the software already running on the machine, so a routine written off-line still matches the controller on the shop floor.

Existing programs are revised when a print changes or a program no longer matches the fixture in use. Revision work is logged against the print revision level so the inspection history stays traceable.

What Is Covered

Each routine has to run unattended and still flag a true deviation. Development and revision both end with a dry run on the machine before release to production.

  1. New part programs

Routines are built from print or model data for first-article or production inspection.

  2. GD&T translation

Datums, tolerance zones and feature callouts are mapped to measured points.

  3. Program revision

Existing routines are updated for print changes or fixture modifications.

  4. Offline programming

CAD-based programming reduces machine downtime during development.

  5. Collision avoidance checks

Probe paths are simulated against fixture and part geometry before the first run.

How a Program Is Built

  1. Print review

Datums, tolerances and critical features are identified before coding begins.

  2. Fixture check

Workholding and probe access are confirmed against the part geometry.

  3. Program build

Measurement routines are written and sequenced for the controlling software.

  4. Dry run

The program is run and adjusted on the machine before release.

Why Nashville CMM Calibration and Repair

  1. Print-driven routines

Programs are built directly from GD&T callouts, not a generic point cloud.

  2. Revision support

Existing programs are updated instead of rebuilt where the fixture still applies.

  3. Dry-run verification

No program is released until it has been run on the actual machine.
