Scope of Gage Calibration

Granite surface plates, gauge blocks, and ring and plug gauges are calibrated alongside CMM work, so an inspection department can schedule one request instead of several. Pickup and return of smaller gaging can be coordinated around the same visit as a CMM calibration.

Results are traceable to the SI through NIST, with reference standards and uncertainty stated on each certificate. As-found readings are recorded before any cleaning or adjustment is made to a gage.

Gages Covered

Each gage type is checked against its own standard, so a plate, a block and a ring gauge are never measured the same way.

  1. Surface plates

Flatness is mapped across the working surface and reported by grade.

  2. Gauge blocks

Length and parallelism are verified for individual blocks or full sets.

  3. Ring gauges

Internal diameter is checked against class tolerance.

  4. Plug gauges

External diameter and taper are verified against the stated class.

  5. Set recertification

Full gauge block sets are recertified together so interval records stay aligned.

How Gage Calibration Proceeds

  1. Intake and review

Gage type, class and prior calibration history are logged.

  2. Measurement

Comparison against reference standards is completed under controlled conditions.

  3. Data review

Results are checked against tolerance before release.

  4. Certificate issue

Uncertainty and reference standards are stated on the certificate.

Why Nashville CMM Calibration and Repair

  1. Combined scheduling

Surface plates and gauge sets are scheduled with CMM calibration visits.

  2. Class-based tolerance

Each gage is checked against its stated grade or class, not a generic limit.

  3. SI traceability

Measurements trace to the SI through NIST, stated on every certificate.
